No questions asked - Atlanta Dream co-owner Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) must be fired. She wrote a letter to WNBA Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, in which see expressed her discontent for the WNBA's support fo the Black Lives Matter movement after the WNBPA announced it will allow athletes to wear the names of police brutality victims on their jerseys, instate BLM patches on every jersey, and have BLM messages on the courts in Florida. The letter that Loeffler (who is an avid supporter of Donald Trump) wrote, said the following:
"I adamantly oppose the Black Lives Matter political movement, which has advocated for the defunding of police, called for the removal of Jesus from churches and the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbored anti-Semitic views, and promoted violence and destruction across the country. I believe it is totally misaligned with the values and goals of the WNBA and the Atlanta Dream, where we support tolerance and inclusion. The truth is, we need less -- not more politics in sports. In a time when polarizing politics is as divisive as ever, sports has the power to be a unifying antidote. And now more than ever, we should be united in our goal to remove politics from sports" (ESPN).
I, for one, am appalled by this statement. How can she claim to "support tolerance and inclusion" when she is speaking out against Black people? How does that even make sense? Not to mention she said adding an American flag to uniforms and licensed merch would be "common sense" instead of BLM patches. Disgusting. Loeffler is clearly a racist and there is no room this in the WNBA. Mind you, the WNBA is about 88% Black of POC. I'm mortified by Loeffler's comments, and it's time for her to go.
Numerous players have also expressed their resentment for Loeffler's statement and the WNBA responded saying this on Twitter.

Sports need to do better in eradicating racism. The world needs to do better in eradicating racism. It's time for equality.
Bye, Kelly.
